Privacy in the beta

reeef is an early beta operated by Ray Svitla. It stores material you choose to save and helps you find it again. This page describes the current implementation.

Check visibility before sharing. Public references and their available media can be viewed without signing in. Private references require authorised access. Your selection in the app determines visibility; a saved item is not automatically confidential.

What reeef stores

Your profile handle, display name and language; passkey public credentials and account/session records. reeef does not receive your Face ID data or passkey private key.
Links, notes, comments, screenshots, documents, audio and video you submit, together with file metadata, extracted text, transcripts, previews, categories and related entities.
Searches and explicit library/taste interactions used by the app, your saved preferences, reminders and export requests. A notification device token is stored if you enable notifications.

Where processing happens

The cloud service uses Cloudflare Workers, D1 and R2 for the API, canonical library and uploaded media. A paired processor downloads authorised work to its own storage and performs tasks such as OCR, transcription and media conversion. The personal companion runs on your Mac and requires it to be available.

Saving a link may cause its public destination and linked resources to be fetched to obtain content and previews. Those websites receive normal network requests from the processor.

AI and your ChatGPT subscription

When you enable an AI connection, relevant saved content, extracted text, images and instructions are sent to the provider you selected for analysis. Its own data and usage terms apply. The personal ChatGPT option uses official sign-in and separate permission to use your plan; its OAuth credentials remain in the local companion's protected store. It does not import your ChatGPT conversations or memories. There is no automatic switch to a paid API provider.

An optional API connection uses the API provider's billing and is separate from a ChatGPT subscription. Do not enter someone else's credentials.

Retention and control

Saved references and derived information remain in the library until you change or remove them. Some original video or audio files have a retention deadline shown in the app; use “Keep original” when available to preserve one. Previews, extracted text and pinned originals have their own lifecycle. Local downloads, exports and backups can persist independently of the cloud copy.

You can change item visibility, edit or remove references, export your material and disconnect providers. You can revoke ChatGPT access and manage plan usage limits in your ChatGPT settings. For account-level deletion or a privacy request during this beta, contact the person who invited you through the TestFlight feedback contact.

Diagnostics and testing

reeef uses technical request and processing records to operate the service and diagnose failures. This beta does not include advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs. Apple may collect TestFlight crash and diagnostic information under its own terms. Feedback screenshots and descriptions are shared when you choose to submit them; avoid including secrets or unrelated personal information.
